The United Kingdom will celebrate Black History Month 2025 with a series of cultural performances headlined by the renowned Afodat Dance Group.
The group will stage three major shows in October, blending traditional African dance, drumming, and storytelling to showcase the richness of Black heritage and its global influence.
The performances are scheduled for October 4 and October 11 at the Broadwater Farm Community Centre, with a headline event on October 18 at the Lighthouse Theatre. Each show will run from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with tickets priced at £20.
Founded to preserve and promote African traditions through performance, the Afodat Dance Group is known for its dynamic stagecraft, colourful costumes, and ability to engage audiences of all ages. Their repertoire fuses authentic African rhythms with contemporary elements, reflecting both continuity and innovation.
Black History Month, observed annually in October in the UK, is a time to honour the achievements, struggles, and contributions of Black people across generations.
This year’s events are expected to draw diverse audiences, providing not only entertainment but also an opportunity for reflection and dialogue on the significance of cultural heritage in shaping society.
“Through dance and drumming, we celebrate resilience, identity, and the stories of our ancestors. Our performances are more than entertainment—they are lessons in history and expressions of pride,” the group said in a statement.
Organizers added that the shows aim to strengthen community ties while inspiring younger generations to embrace and preserve their cultural roots.
With vibrant performances, live drumming, and interactive audience moments, the Afodat Dance Group’s tour is set to be a highlight of this year’s Black History Month calendar.
