Bibiani GoldStars head coach Frimpong Manso believes their 2-1 victory over Asante Kotoko in the 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament will serve as a major motivational boost for his squad.
The Ghana Premier League side stunned the FA Cup champions at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Wednesday night.
Kotoko initially took the lead through Albert Amoah, but Samuel Attah Kumi equalized from the penalty spot before halftime. The decisive moment came after the break when a misjudged back pass by Henry Ansu resulted in an own goal, handing GoldStars the win.
“It’s been good for us in terms of motivation because our players will be encouraged by this result in the tournament. Playing against a team like Kotoko in your first game puts pressure on you, and for me, seeing how they handled it is promising,” Manso said after the game.
“But once they have been able to manage that pressure, I think they will perform well in the next games. For me, it’s not just about the win—I want to see how my players perform on a big occasion like this. I think they did just that, although we still have a lot of mistakes to correct,” he added.
GoldStars now prepare to face Hearts of Oak, who edged Heart of Lions 1-0 in the second match, while Kotoko will meet Heart of Lions. Both GoldStars and Kotoko are also gearing up for the upcoming CAF interclub competitions.
