
Stanbic Bank Ghana has contributed GH₵500,000 to the newly created Support Fund, aimed at providing financial aid to the children of the victims of the military helicopter crash near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.
President John Dramani Mahama announced the donation during the state funeral on August 15, 2025, held at Black Star Square.
In a statement signed by the bank’s Chief Executive, Kwamina Asomaning, Stanbic Bank extended its condolences to the bereaved families, with special emphasis on the children left without parents.
“In the aftermath of the tragic helicopter crash that took the lives of dedicated servicemen, our deepest sympathies go to the families left behind, especially the children who must now face life without their parents,” Mr. Asomaning said.
He noted that the donation was not just a means of financial support but also a symbol of unity and compassion. “We hope this gesture will not only bring some relief but also serve as a message of hope—that these children are not alone, and that Ghana stands with them,” he added.
Stanbic Bank also commended the President for initiating the fund and affirmed its commitment to working together to ensure that every child, no matter their situation, has the chance to succeed.
The crash on August 6, 2025, plunged Ghana into national mourning after a military helicopter transporting senior government officials and crew lost contact en route to Obuasi and crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District, claiming eight lives.
Those who died included Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manean Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
