The Mamprugu Kaya Ni Ta’ada has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of two prominent political figures, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, in the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including five top government officials and three servicemen.
In a tribute, the Mamprugu leadership extended condolences to the families of the deceased, the people of Dagbon and Gonjaland, and the nation at large.
Dr. Murtala Mohammed, MP for Tamale Central and Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, was described as an in-law of the Mamprugu Kingdom through his wife, a Mamprugu princess from Gbimsi.
Muniru Limuna, a former Northern Regional Minister, was commended for his role in brokering peace in the decade-long Konkomba-Bimoba conflict, leading to a lasting settlement in 2015. He was also noted as an in-law of the Mamprugu Kingdom through his marriage to a daughter of the late Alhaji Ligbi from Gambaga.
Highlighting the deep interwoven family ties between the Mamprugu Kingdom, Dagbon, and Gonjaland, the Kaya Ni Ta’ada urged Ghanaians to heed the call of His Royal Majesty, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, for national unity in the wake of the tragedy.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the wives, children, and extended families of the late ministers, as well as all who mourn across the country,” the tribute stated.
