You gave me the experience of being deeply understood, supported, and loved - Wife of late Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah pays emotional tribute

The wife of the late Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah has described her husband as her “biggest cheerleader” and “hero” in a moving tribute during the interdenominational state funeral for the eight victims of the August 6 Sikaman helicopter crash.

Fighting back tears, she recalled his kindness, humility, and dedication to service — qualities that earned him the nickname “Adwumawura.”

She spoke of his deep love for God, his passion for his work, particularly his commitment to the Z9 aircraft, and the unwavering support he gave his family.

“You gave me the experience of being deeply understood, genuinely supported, and utterly loved,” she said.

Sergeant Addo Mensah died alongside Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and five others when a military helicopter crashed in the Ashanti Region en route to Obuasi for the launch of the government’s Cooperative Mining Initiative.

Below is the full tribute:

TRIBUTE FROM WIFE OF THE LATE 202154 SERGEANT MENSAH ADDO ERNEST

To my biggest cheerleader, the kindest of hearts, my big brother, and my Mantse, putting words together for your tribute is the hardest task I have ever been given. My heart
aches beyond words thinking of not seeing your beautiful ‘receptionist smile’ as you called
it or hearing you call me ‘Manye’ a hundred times in a day.

You gave me the experience of being deeply understood, genuinely supported, and utterly
loved. You often said, “Manye, I will give us a life that many people will wish to be in your
shoes,” but now, these shoes you’ve put on me, no one wishes to wear. Should I say you lied?

No, because I know if you had control over life, you would choose to live a thousand years
to make me happy. Anyone who knew you attests to your exceptional humility, hard work and pure dedication to service, earning you the name ‘Adwumawura’.

The Z9 was like your first child and in every conversation, you’d find a way to bring it up.
You would spend long nights reading and researching to care for it. Your love for God was unmatched, and I affectionately called you ‘My Apostle’. Mantse, it’s been days, and you have not called at 5 am for us to pray. Ah Death, shame on you! You have not won; Christ has, because Ernest died knowing Him as his Lord and Savior.

I was oblivious that death would take you so soon, but meeting you has shown me that
angels truly exist in human form. You will forever be my HERO. Forever in my thoughts,
never to die. Continue to rest in the bosom of our Lord till we meet again.
Goodbye, My Love
