Nkaseim chief urges gov’t to fast track plastic ban

The Chief of Nkaseim in the Ahafo Region, Nana Danso Agyei Ababio, has urged the government to expedite plans to ban plastics as part of efforts to safeguard the environment.

Speaking during a cleanup exercise organised by the Asutifi South District Assembly at Nkaseim, the chief warned that plastic pollution had reached alarming levels, making plastics the leading environmental pollutant in the country.

He called for urgent action to completely phase out the use of plastics, stressing that the situation poses a growing threat to communities and the ecosystem.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi South, Benjamin Assabil Donkor, attributed the success of recent cleanup exercises in Hwidiem, Acherensua, and Nkaseim to strong collaboration with traditional leaders, religious groups, and community organisations.

He disclosed that the assembly has introduced a reward scheme for churches actively participating in cleanup activities. The first-place church receives 10 bags of cement, the second receives seven, and the third five.
