Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren is bracing for a stern test when Ghana faces Algeria in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The crucial knockout tie is set for Saturday, July 19, at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, with kick-off scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Björkegren — who took charge of the Black Queens just five months ago — acknowledged the strength and discipline of the Algerian side.
“The Algeria team is very organised, maybe potentially the best-organised team in this tournament,” Björkegren said.
“It shows that the coach is doing a good job there, and it’s going to be a difficult game for us for sure. We need to do our things; we need to keep building.”
He also noted the youthful nature of his squad and their steady progress.
“We are pretty new as a team, and we have many young players. I’ve only been with the team for five months, so we can see that we’re doing better and better, more or less in every game,” he added.
Ghana will be aiming to extend their impressive run in Morocco as they seek a place in the semi-finals.
