The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has cleared the Black Queens’ outstanding allowances ahead of their crucial final group match against Tanzania in the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ghana’s Ambassador to Morocco, Charity Gbedawo, revealed to Joy Sports that financial delays had caused some challenges for the team, but swift intervention by Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams ensured the payments were settled.
“They had a few challenges along the line… their finances were delayed a bit. But to the glory of God, the Minister for Sports and Recreation (Kofi Iddie Adams) facilitated the quick release of the money, and they have been sorted out,” she stated.
Ambassador Gbedawo expressed confidence that the timely payment would boost the players’ morale ahead of the must-win game.
“Their morale has gone up, so on this note, I believe that tomorrow’s match they are going to make Ghana proud. I know they will score (win) so that they move on (qualify) to the next game.”
Currently, Ghana sits at the bottom of Group C after two matches — a 2-0 loss to South Africa followed by a 1-1 draw with Mali.
To keep their tournament hopes alive, the Black Queens must secure a convincing win over Tanzania and rely on South Africa to defeat Mali in the group’s other fixture.
