Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has strongly denied all charges brought against him by the UK’s Metropolitan Police.
The 32-year-old was officially charged on Friday with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. According to authorities, two of the rape charges involve one woman, three others involve a second woman, while the sexual assault charge concerns a third woman.
In a statement released by his legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire, Partey firmly refuted the allegations, emphasizing his cooperation throughout the lengthy investigation.
“Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation.”
Wiltshire added that the player is ready to face the legal process in order to clear his name.
“He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name. Given that there are now ongoing legal proceedings, my client is unable to comment further.”
Partey is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5. The Metropolitan Police indicated that the alleged incidents took place between 2021 and 2022.
