Residents of Nsawam and Amasaman have rescheduled their planned protest to Saturday, July 12, to demand immediate action on the deteriorating state of the Ofankor–Nsawam road.
Originally slated for Monday, June 30, the demonstration was postponed following consultations with the Ghana Police Service, who advised on a later date to ensure sufficient security deployment.
Speaking on Channel One TV, on Friday, July 4, lead organiser Nana Kusi Afriyie confirmed the new protest date, saying it was agreed upon in response to logistical concerns from law enforcement.
“We intended to demonstrate on Monday, but the security agencies requested a shift to Saturday due to prior commitments. We’re mobilising over 1,700 participants and have the backing of the GPRTU, concerned drivers, and residents from Nsawam and Amasaman. So we’re ready,” he stated.
The protest will culminate at Amasaman Stadium Junction, where organisers plan to present a petition to the Member of Parliament for Amasaman.
Residents are incensed over the stalled road construction, which began in 2023 but has seen little progress. They complain of enduring clouds of dust, deep potholes, and paralyzing traffic on a daily basis.
A report by Channel One News on Thursday, July 3, highlighted the dire situation, with stranded passengers struggling to find transportation and many forced to walk long distances under harsh conditions.
Locals blame government agencies for their inaction despite repeated promises to complete the project. They say the poor road is affecting livelihoods, delaying school attendance, and disrupting daily life across several communities.
