Ghana Tourism Authority’s 2024 report showcases growth and sustainability drive

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has launched its 2024 report, highlighting strong growth both locally and internationally while intensifying its focus on sustainability, skills development, and digital innovation.

Themed Growth and Sustainability, the report serves as a vital resource for assessing the performance of Ghana’s tourism sector and identifying key trends, opportunities, and areas for strategic intervention.

It outlined the impact of flagship events such as PANAFEST Emancipation, the Kwahu Paragliding Festival, and Detty December, which collectively spurred economic activity across the country and created employment opportunities for thousands of Ghanaians.

Speaking at the launch event in Accra on Thursday, July 3, 2025, the Chief Executive Officer of GTA, Maame Efua Houadjeto, stated that the Authority is undergoing a transformative phase.

She emphasised rising visitor numbers, strengthened public-private partnerships, and a growing commitment to climate-conscious tourism practices.

“We are particularly proud of the strides we are making in promoting sustainable tourism practices—from eco-tourism and community-based initiatives to climate-sensitive destination management.

“Our goal is not only to attract visitors but to ensure that tourism development benefits local communities and protects our natural and cultural heritage for generations to come,” she said.

Madam Houadjeto noted that the 2024 report would help shape the next chapter of tourism in Ghana, urging collaboration among stakeholders in the public, private, and civil society sectors.

“Let us work together to unlock new markets, strengthen infrastructure, and leverage digital innovation to deliver seamless experiences,” she charged.

She also expressed appreciation to GTA’s partners and the media for their consistent support in telling Ghana’s story.

“We thank you for being the bridge between our work and the world. I want to express my appreciation to the hard-working team at the Ghana Tourism Authority, our regional offices, and all our collaborators for making the 2024 Ghana Tourism Report a reality,” she said.
