Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has praised his players following their impressive 4–2 comeback victory over Benin on Wednesday night, as part of their ongoing preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ghana’s senior women’s team continued their strong pre-tournament form, having also defeated Malawi 3–1 last Saturday, making it two wins from two in their friendly matches.
Reflecting on the performance, Bjorkegren expressed particular satisfaction with the team’s second-half display.
“It was a good game. Great second half. I think we were struggling a little bit in the middle of the first half,” he said.
“But when we took the ball down and started to play football, we were absolutely the better team. We scored four goals and even had more chances. I’m happy the attack is starting to look better and better.”
The Swedish tactician also commended the team’s improving goal-scoring ability: “We have scored seven goals now in two games.”
The Black Queens will wrap up their WAFCON warm-up matches with a high-profile clash against Nigeria on Saturday, June 28.
Ghana is drawn in Group C of the tournament, alongside defending champions South Africa, Tanzania, and Mali. The team will kick off their WAFCON campaign on July 5, aiming to win their first-ever continental title in what will be their 13th appearance at the competition.
