South African heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs are set to lock horns with Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in the second edition of the Toyota Cup, scheduled for July 26, 2025, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The Toyota Cup, launched in 2024 as part of a three-year initiative, extends Kaizer Chiefs’ partnership with Toyota, which began in 2021. With Toyota South Africa headquartered in Prospecton, just outside Durban, the event continues to reinforce the bond between the global auto brand and the local community.
This year’s fixture is expected to be a thrilling encounter, especially after Kaizer Chiefs suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Tanzania’s Young Africans in the tournament’s inaugural edition. The Glamour Boys will be determined to redeem themselves with a strong showing against their Ghanaian counterparts.
Both Kaizer Chiefs and Asante Kotoko recently clinched their national FA Cup titles, earning them spots in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup. Their face-off in Durban not only rekindles a historic rivalry but also serves as vital preparation for their continental campaigns.
The match will also revive memories of their last meeting during the 2001 Vodacom Challenge—also held in Durban—adding an extra layer of nostalgia to this high-profile friendly.
