Ghanaian boxer and Olympic bronze medalist Samuel Takyi has set his sights on becoming a world champion in professional boxing.

Takyi, who captured global attention with his standout performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, is now focused on the next big milestone in his career — clinching a world title.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s SportsNite show, Takyi opened up about his transition from amateur to professional boxing and the impact of his Olympic success.

“After the Olympics, things changed. I received support, equipment, and recognition. That moment really brought me into the light,” he reflected, highlighting how his Olympic win shaped his career.

Now entrenched in the professional ranks, Takyi has already identified a key target: American boxer Keyshawn Davis.

“Now, I am a professional boxer, and I’m preparing for a world title. My target is American boxer Keyshawn Davis,” he said.

However, the road hasn’t been entirely smooth. Takyi admitted that the period following the Olympics came with its share of struggles, particularly due to the lack of a solid support system.

“I didn’t have a strong team behind me after the Olympics, and that affected me. I went down a bit, but I never quit,” he revealed, emphasising his resilience and determination.

Now back on track and more determined than ever, Takyi is preparing to climb boxing’s highest ranks — a journey that embodies perseverance, ambition, and the enduring spirit of a champion.
