The Eastern Region has concluded the confirmation process for all 33 Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) nominated by President John Mahama.

All the nominees received a one-touch endorsement during a two-week confirmation exercise.

The confirmation process began in Mpraeso, where the nominee, David Osei Bonsu Effah, secured 31 YES votes out of 37 votes cast, representing 84% of the total valid votes.

The final confirmations were held on Friday, May 16, in the Kwahu Afram Plains North and South districts.

In Kwahu Afram Plains North, the nominee, Kate Mawusi Babanawo, received a 100% endorsement, while in Kwahu Afram Plains South, Moses Tangmee secured 37 YES votes against 4 NO votes, representing 90.2% of total valid votes cast.

With the exception of a few, the majority of the nominees received 100% endorsements, indicating strong support for the President’s appointees.

Apart from Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Akropong, where there were minor tensions, the rest of the confirmations proceeded smoothly.

In Kwahu East, for instance, NPP MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong openly declared his support for the nominee, Samuel Asamoah, and encouraged assembly members to confirm him.

However, in Nsawam-Adoagyiri, tensions nearly escalated into fisticuffs when the MP, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, was prevented from entering the counting area, which had been cordoned off to ensure a smooth ballot tally.

The smooth confirmation process across the region has been attributed to collaboration between the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, and the NDC regional executives, led by Dr. Mark-Oliver Kevor.
