One person arrested in connection with goat theft in Assin South

-

At least one person has been arrested in connection with a goat theft incident involving three suspects at Assin Okyiso in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

The suspect, whose name is currently unknown, was reportedly arrested in a nearby bush at Assin Okyiso by community members after the other accomplices fled the scene with their operational vehicle.

The suspect, believed to be about 21 years old, is currently in police custody at Assin Darmang.

The Toyota Camry with registration number GE 7075-23, which was used for the operation, has been successfully towed—along with the eight goats, most of which are pregnant—to the Assin Darmang police station as exhibits for investigation.

A police officer from the patrol team that responded to the incident confirmed to Radio Fosu/Adom that the suspected thieves used a rental car from Cape Coast for the operation.

Unfortunately, one of the pregnant goats has died. The remaining seven goats are being held, along with the suspect, to assist with the ongoing police investigation.

The police have not yet issued an official statement on the matter, explaining that investigations are still ongoing.
