Bawku chieftaincy conflict: Over 20 houses torched in Gumyoko

-

At least 12 houses were burnt down last night by unknown assailants in the Gumyoko community in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

The attack is believed to be a spillover of the long-standing chieftaincy conflict in neighbouring Bawku.

According to JoyNews security sources, similar attacks occurred three days earlier, bringing the total number of houses destroyed to over 20.

Sources revealed that residents had deserted the Gumyoko community nearly a month ago due to repeated attacks. The assailants allegedly took advantage of the empty settlement to burn down homes and other properties.

No arrests have been made so far.
