U-20 AFCON: Coach Ofei eyes tough test against CAR

-

Ghana coach Desmond Ofei says his side is bracing for a stern test against the Central African Republic (CAR) as they prepare for their final Group C fixture at the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

The Black Satellites secured a crucial 1-0 victory over defending champions Senegal on Monday at the New Suez Stadium, thanks to a first-half goal from Emmanuel Mensah.

The win follows their 1-1 opening draw against DR Congo, leaving Ghana in a strong position heading into their last group match.

Ghana will face CAR on Thursday, 8th May 2025, in a decisive encounter that could determine their path in the tournament.

Speaking after the hard-fought win over the Teranga Lions, Coach Ofei acknowledged the challenge ahead but expressed confidence in his team’s preparation and fighting spirit.

“We know the game against the Central African Republic will be difficult. But just like today, we’ll fight, prepare well, and give our best,” he said.

Ofei also reiterated the team’s ultimate ambition — qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup set to be held in Qatar later this year.

“Our main goal is to qualify for the World Cup. That’s the focus. Each match and positive result takes us a step closer.”
