The MTN  FA Cup committee on Tuesday  10th October unveiled  an official mascot ahead of the 2017 final  which will be played between rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak in Tamale.

The outdooring was done at the Ghana Football Association headquarters by the FA Committee members. This is the first of its kind in the history of Ghana Football for any locally organized tournament. The mascot is a yellow fowl named “Mr Obia nye obia”.

Mascots play increasingly important role in tournaments, representing the fun side of events. Official Mascots serve to promote events and entertain the crowd in the stadium.

According to Kurt Okraku, Chairman  of the  FA Cup committee, “This is the first time we are  all seeing somebody  in the name of Mr. Obia nye obia”,he told Asempa Sports.

“This is a very important and unique ceremony and again it is part of history. The mascot will be used as a major component of the overall  event ,especially in this year’s final at the Tamale sports stadium.

“The MTN FA Cup trophy will start it journey to Tamale but it will make it first stop at the Accra Hearts of Oak office on Thursday, then to Ghanaian Times  and Daily Graphic on Friday”.

“We will also make a stop at Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s office on Saturday and then start the journey by flight to Tamale on 17 October” he added.

The Mascot will play a huge role in the build towards the first Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko FA Cup final since the 1990’s.

The FA Cup finals is scheduled for October 29.
