This year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations, BECE, begins throughout the country today, Monday.

In all, 468 thousand and 53 candidates from 15 thousand 185 schools are participating in the examination.

The P.R.O of the Ghana Education Service, Rev. Jonathan Bettey, says it is an offence for any head teacher to prevent any candidate from writing the examinations for non-payment of fees or for being pregnant in the case of female candidates.

Rev. Bettey said everything has been put in place to ensure a successful conduct of the examinations.

Invigilators in the Agortime-Ziope District of the Volta Region earlier threatened to boycott the exams over the non-payment of their accrued allowances by the GES.

But Rev. Bettey, said all arrears including payment for their service during this year’s BECE will be paid.
