Four persons on remand at the Akuse Local Prison have been set free under the “Justice For All Programme” (JFAP), an initiative meant to decongest the country’s prisons.
The four inmates were unconditionally discharged out of the 34 hearing applications received.
Two specialized High courts have been set up at the prison to hear the cases of some of the accused persons on remand.
Joy News’ Maxwell Agbagba who followed the story reported on Adom Midday News that, one of the people who gained his freedom was a 22-year-old boy who has been on remand for two years without trial for stealing an LCD Television.
The young man, Maxwell said after being set free, broke into tears and thanked the court that was constituted to hear his case and the lawyers who defended him.
