Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has called on Ghana supporters to rally behind the players available for Tuesday’s crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia, insisting there is little value in dwelling on those missing through injury.
Ghana return to the Accra Sports Stadium under pressure after opening their Group C campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké last Thursday.
The setback has made a positive response against the Scorpions even more important as the four-time African champions chase their first points of the qualifying campaign.
With several senior players unavailable, Queiroz urged supporters to channel their energy into encouraging the squad selected for the match rather than focusing on absent stars.
“It’s better to stay home if you’re coming to the stadium to complain about players that are not here instead of supporting those that are here,” Queiroz said.
Kick-off at the Accra Sports Stadium is scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
The Black Stars have been forced to cope without a number of influential players, including Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo and Nathaniel Adjei, prompting Queiroz to draft in replacements ahead of his first competitive home match since returning for a second spell in charge.
The Portuguese coach believes a strong atmosphere in Accra could help his side bounce back from the disappointment in Bouaké and reignite their qualification hopes.
Victory over The Gambia would lift Ghana off the mark in Group C and provide a significant boost in their bid to secure a place at the 2027 AFCON, after missing the 2025 finals in Morocco and ending a run of more than 20 years of consecutive appearances at the tournament.
