Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara has called for Godwin Attram and Desmond Ofei to be appointed as interim coaches of the Black Stars for their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Somalia.

Ghana are searching for a new head coach following the departure of Carlos Queiroz after a disappointing start to their qualifying campaign.

The Black Stars lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké before suffering a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium, leaving their hopes of qualifying for the tournament under pressure.

The GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have established a five-member committee to oversee the search for a substantive head coach.

However, the committee’s mandate has been extended as the process continues.

The two institutions have confirmed that an interim technical team will take charge of Ghana’s Matchday Three and Four fixtures against Somalia at the Accra Sports Stadium next month.

With the committee expected to submit its recommendations, Sannie Daara believes Attram and Ofei should be entrusted with the team while the authorities take time to identify a coach capable of building for the future.

“Godwin Attram and Desmond Ofei must be given the opportunity to take charge of the Somalia games and then take time to look for proper coaches who can build a team for the future,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

Ofei previously served as an assistant coach under Otto Addo and Queiroz before being assigned to lead Ghana’s Black Meteors, the national under-23 team.

Attram, meanwhile, was appointed as Queiroz’s second assistant coach ahead of Ghana’s opening matches in the AFCON qualifiers.

The Black Stars are scheduled to face Somalia twice in November, with the matches offering an opportunity to revive their campaign after consecutive defeats.

Ghana are expected to appoint a substantive head coach before their final group matches against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia next year.
