Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agemang Badu stressed that the Black Stars need to show character and a strong mentality to be able to beat The Gambia in their second Group C fixture in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
Ghana will host the Scorpions at the Accra Sports Stadium today, September 29, with the Black Stars aiming to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in their opening qualifier last Thursday.
Speaking in an interview, the former midfielder expressed concern that the current Black Stars squad lacks enough experienced players in key positions.
“The team has changed and is crippled with inexperience. The team is also depleted. Take our midfield: our experienced midfielders are Kwasi Sibo and Caleb Yirenkyi,” he told Lawson TV.
Although acknowledging the stern test ahead of the Black Stars, he believes Ghana can secure a positive outcome with enough character and mentality.
“It will be difficult, but we need to win. We just need strong mentality and character,” he added.
Ghana currently sits at the bottom of their AFCON qualifier group and will be seeking their first points against the Scorpions to get their campaign back on track after missing out on the previous edition in Morocco.
Kick-off is scheduled at 16:00 GMT.
