The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has dismissed reports suggesting that Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has resigned from the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 29, the Ministry described the reports circulating on social media as false, stressing that there has been no disagreement between the Minister and GoldBod.
According to the Ministry, Mr Armah-Kofi Buah initially served personally on the GoldBod Board but in January 2026 nominated the Ministry’s Chief Director, Marcus Haligah, to represent him.
The Ministry explained that the decision was purely administrative and was necessitated by the Minister’s demanding schedule and extensive responsibilities.
At the time, Mr Armah-Kofi Buah was overseeing responsibilities across two ministries, making it difficult for him to attend all GoldBod board meetings and engagements personally.
The Ministry said he therefore exercised the appropriate institutional arrangement by designating the Chief Director, a senior official of the Ministry, to represent him.
It added that the arrangement is consistent with GoldBod’s governance framework, which permits designated representatives to serve on the Board on behalf of members where applicable.
“The recent clarification by GoldBod itself confirms that the Minister initially served on the Board personally but, due to his busy schedule and inability to attend Board meetings regularly, nominated the Chief Director to represent him,” the statement said.
The Ministry has consequently urged the public, media organisations and other stakeholders to disregard reports suggesting that the Minister resigned from GoldBod or that his decision was linked to any disagreement, conflict or dissatisfaction with the institution.
It further highlighted what it described as a strong working relationship between the Ministry and GoldBod.
The Ministry noted that the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with GoldBod to intensify mineral exploration activities.
It also said the Responsible Cooperative Mining (rCOMSDEP) is collaborating with GoldBod on responsible mining, while GoldBod is working with the Forestry Commission on land reclamation and has supported the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) with vehicles.
Mr Armah-Kofi Buah, the Ministry said, remains committed to the government’s agenda of strengthening Ghana’s gold sector, increasing local value retention, promoting responsible mining and ensuring that the country’s mineral resources contribute meaningfully to national development.
The Ministry has therefore encouraged the public and media to rely on official communications from the Ministry and GoldBod on matters concerning the governance and operations of the institution.
