Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed confidence in the Black Stars’ ability to demonstrate their quality when they face Panama in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The four-time African champions begin their campaign against the Central American side at BMO Field in Toronto on Wednesday, with expectations high as Ghana seeks a positive start to its fifth appearance at the global showpiece.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Queiroz acknowledged the strengths of the Panamanian team, describing them as a disciplined and experienced opponent capable of causing problems.

Despite his respect for Panama, the veteran coach believes Ghana possesses the attributes needed to secure victory.

“Of course, (Panama) has some weaknesses,” Queiroz said. “We need to find them, and I believe we have the solution to their strengths.”

The 73-year-old highlighted the qualities within his squad, insisting the Black Stars have the tools required to compete at the highest level.

“We’ve got great experience, we’ve got quality, we’ve got speed, we’ve got skill.

“I think we can do well in one-on-one situations. We’re strong, and we’ll showcase our strengths in the game,” he added.

The Group A encounter has generated significant excitement among Ghanaian supporters, with the Black Stars eager to begin their World Cup journey on a winning note.

After facing Panama, Ghana will take on England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 before wrapping up their group-stage campaign against Croatia on June 27.

The Black Stars will also be aiming to reach the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since their historic run to the quarter-finals at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where they came within a penalty shootout of becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals.
