A delegation from the Ghana Army College’s National College of Defence Studies has paid a courtesy call on Volta Regional Minister James Gunu as part of a research exercise focused on the theme, “National Cohesion, Security and Sustainable Development.”

The visit formed part of the College’s field studies aimed at gathering information and perspectives on national cohesion and its role in promoting security and sustainable development in Ghana.

The team, comprising 12 participants and eight faculty members, is expected to visit the Ho West, Agotime-Ziope, Adaklu, and South Dayi districts as part of its research activities in the Volta Region.

Speaking after the engagement, the Deputy Commander of the National College of Defence Studies and leader of the delegation, Brigadier General Konadu, said the institution was established in 2023 as Ghana’s highest professional military education institution to train senior military officers, officers from allied countries, and senior public servants for strategic leadership positions.

He explained that the College adopts an annual theme to guide its academic discussions and research activities, with this year’s focus being national cohesion, security, and sustainable development.

According to him, findings from the field studies will be compiled into a report and submitted to the appropriate authorities to help shape national policy and development planning.

Brigadier General Konadu stressed that strengthening national cohesion remains essential to safeguarding Ghana’s security and creating the conditions necessary for sustainable development.

Welcoming the delegation, Volta Regional Minister James Gunu commended the Ghana Armed Forces for initiating research on issues critical to national development.

He noted that peace, security and development are closely interconnected and urged Ghanaians to embrace tolerance, patriotism and peaceful coexistence regardless of political, ethnic or religious differences.

Mr. Gunu also praised the Ghana Armed Forces for their professionalism and commitment to national unity, while highlighting the participation of officers from countries such as Namibia, Rwanda and Zambia in the programme.

He emphasised that national cohesion remains a shared responsibility and is fundamental to sustaining peace, security and development across the country.

The engagement provided an opportunity for both parties to exchange ideas on strengthening social harmony, enhancing security awareness and promoting sustainable development.

The visit reaffirmed the commitment of the Ghana Armed Forces and the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to collaborate in advancing national unity and fostering a peaceful environment for development.
