Vice President of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, paid a morale-boosting visit to the Black Stars on Tuesday as the team finalised preparations for their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Panama.
The Black Stars arrived in Toronto earlier in the day from Rhode Island, where they had been holding a training camp ahead of their Group L opener.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was accompanied by a distinguished delegation that included Chief Justice Baffoe Bonnie, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, and Nana Otuo Siriboe II, who represented Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Addressing the players and technical team at their hotel, the Vice President delivered a message of support from President John Dramani Mahama and the Ghanaian public, urging the squad to approach the tournament with discipline, unity and determination.
“The entire nation is behind you. Go out there and make Ghana proud,” she told the team.
The visit comes as Ghana prepares to begin its World Cup campaign against Panama at BMO Field on Wednesday, June 17, with kick-off scheduled for 23:00 GMT.
The four-time African champions will then take on England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 before concluding their Group L fixtures against Croatia on June 27.
The Black Stars will be aiming to advance beyond the group stage and reach the knockout rounds of the World Cup for the first time since their historic run at the 2010 tournament.
