Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has disclosed that a special local observation programme has been introduced to help him assess Ghana’s top home-based players ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Portuguese trainer said the initiative is designed to give him a quicker understanding of Ghana’s domestic football landscape and identify standout performers in the local game.
Home-based players have struggled in recent years to secure regular places in the senior national team, with the squad largely dominated by foreign-based professionals.
Speaking on the Beyond The Whistle podcast, Queiroz revealed that he has intensified efforts to familiarise himself with the country’s football structure, with support from the Ghana Football Association.
“I went deeper to know some of the local players,” he noted.
“We put this programme in place so I could see the best players and understand local football much faster,” Queiroz added.
The four-time African champions are preparing for their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
As part of preparations, Queiroz’s men are scheduled to play international friendlies against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
