Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has expressed excitement ahead of Ghana’s Group L showdown with England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying he is eager to enjoy the occasion on football’s biggest stage.
The two nations are set to meet on June 23 at Gillette Stadium in their second group match, a fixture already generating significant anticipation as Ghana prepare for another appearance at the global tournament.
Speaking to the media in Cardiff on Monday, ahead of the team’s international friendly against Wales, Ayew highlighted his enthusiasm for the high-profile encounter.
“I’m looking to have a lot of fun against England at the World Cup,” he said.
The friendly against Wales forms part of Ghana’s final preparations for the tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Black Stars, four-time African champions, are making their fifth World Cup appearance and have been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field before facing England six days later, with their group-stage fixtures concluding against Croatia on June 27.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz has also confirmed his final 26-man squad for the tournament, finalising preparations as the team targets a strong run in North America.
Ghana will be aiming to go beyond the group stage for the first time since their memorable quarter-final run at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
