Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has urged Ghanaians to stay patient with the national team as preparations intensify ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

The 35-year-old made the appeal ahead of Ghana’s international friendly against Wales on Tuesday at the Cardiff City Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 18:45 GMT.

Speaking to the media, Ayew admitted recent results have fallen short of expectations but insisted there have been positive signs in some performances.

“We know we have lost four games, but if you look at the performances, some we did well and some we didn’t do well,” he said.

“I will always remember the Germany game as an encouraging one. Against Austria, for me, it was not a 5-1 game, but sometimes that’s football.”

Ghana’s recent form has triggered criticism from sections of supporters, but Ayew stressed the need to shift focus towards upcoming challenges rather than dwelling on setbacks.

“The past is the past. It is a new chapter and we just need to focus on what is ahead of us and obviously take the first step,” he added.

“I know Ghanaians, and I know the country because I am Ghanaian. I know we take things a bit too personal, but I think we all need to be patient, relax and be positive about the squad.”

The Black Stars will complete their pre-World Cup preparations with a friendly against Jamaica on June 10 before turning attention to the tournament in North America.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama. They open their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, face England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
