Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has described his side’s World Cup elimination as a “disappointing” outcome after the Black Stars were beaten 1-0 by Colombia in Kansas City.

Speaking after the Round of 32 defeat, the Portuguese manager acknowledged his players’ effort but said they fell short against stronger opposition on the day.

“It’s a disappointing result. It’s disappointing because the boys worked hard,” Queiroz said.

“They tried their best. But the reality is that, on the day, especially in terms of passing and controlling the game, the Colombia team was better,” he added.

Ghana’s tournament ended at the first knockout stage following the narrow loss, which was decided in the 14th minute when Jhon Arias struck from close range after a cross from substitute Luis Suárez.

The result ends the Black Stars’ first appearance in the knockout rounds since their 2010 run in South Africa.

Ghana had advanced from the group stage after finishing third in Group L, but were unable to progress further.
