At least 15 people have been killed and 25 others injured in a devastating road accident at Peki-Tsame in the Volta Region.
The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 2, 2026, near Peki Senior High School when a Mercedes-Benz container truck travelling from Nkwanta to Accra collided head-on with a Mercedes-Benz passenger bus en route from Battor to Kabiti in the Oti Region.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a total of 40 people were involved in the accident, comprising 21 males, 15 females and four children.
Firefighters from the Peki Fire Station swiftly responded to the scene and carried out rescue operations to extricate victims trapped in the wreckage.
The GNFS said 25 injured persons, including 23 adults and two children, were rescued and transported to the Peki Government Hospital for medical treatment.
The deceased comprised nine males and six females.
The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the Police and conveyed to the hospital mortuary for preservation and further investigations.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the accident, with investigations currently underway.
Meanwhile, GNFS has extended its condolences to the bereaved families and urged motorists to adhere to road traffic regulations, avoid reckless driving, and exercise caution to help reduce road crashes across the country.
