Chief Executive Officer of CenCES and lecturer at UPSA, James Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr., has weighed in on the reported standoff between the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) Administrator and the Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu over school feeding challenges.
Speaking on the AM Show on JoyNews, he criticised the conduct of the GETFund Administrator, stating that participation in the meeting required respect for the authority of the sector minister.
According to him, the meeting was convened by the Education Minister, who had the mandate to preside and give direction on matters within the sector.
“If the GETFund Administrator was not prepared to take instructions from the Education Minister, then he had no business being at the meeting,” he stated
He referenced reports suggesting that the GETFund Administrator indicated he takes instructions from the Finance Ministry rather than the Education Ministry.
Dr. Bomfeh acknowledged that all financial approvals ultimately fall under the Ministry of Finance, but stressed that agencies must take operational and implementation directives from their respective sector ministers.
He argued that if the Administrator was unwilling to take instructions from the Education Minister, then he had no justification for attending the meeting in the first place.
The comments come amid ongoing concerns about coordination challenges affecting education-related programmes, including school feeding.
