“You don’t need weed (marijuana) to do reggae. I know weed is associated with the reggae genre because of Bob Marley but I don’t smoke…” he said on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.

Asked why he fuses the reggae with gospel genre, Akesse who said his mom was related to legend, Amakye Dede said it was because of his association with relatives who loved reggae music.

“I grew up in Kumasi and my uncles were dope reggae guys. Some of them played bands; my mom’s distance cousin is Amakye Dede. I grew in the environment. It was until I started recording that the reggae vibe surfaced and the Reggae ones [vibes] were getting the attention…” he explained.
