Some coconut sellers in Accra have called on the government to take a further look at the levies charged on their products.

According to him, the cost involved in transporting the produce to Accra has increased astronomically due to many taxes.
Some of the coconut sellers, who shared their story on Y’asem Nie segment on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Wednesday cited how policemen accost them en route Accra and demand huge sums of monies from them.

When the goods get to Accra, they are left with no other option than to pass on the cost to consumers.
Kofi Agyiri, who has been selling coconut since 1992, revealed that the market price is GH₵1.20 but sells it for GH₵2.00 to get his profit.
A wholesaler, Kwesi Romeo, who suppliers coconut to sellers in Accra, said his work is impeded by police harassment.

“These police officers harass me every time I’m bringing my goods to Accra and it is affecting my profit. We also pay taxes at where we sell the coconut so we want government to stop taking it,” he appealed.
