The chief and people of Cement, a community in the Krachie East Municipality in the Oti region, made merry after receiving a Community-based Health Service (CHPS) Compound sponsored by World Vision, Ghana for easy access to quality healthcare.
The people said they were happy about the CHPS Compound because they used to travel far before they could access healthcare.
According to them, the only nearest health facilities are at Woarawoara, Dambai and Krachi.
“It is worrying to see that sometimes sick people or pregnant women are put in canoe to cross the Oti River for them to be taken to Krachie West for physicians to attend to them.
“Even at night when someone is sick seriously, there is no doctor or health officer to attend to him or her but now that we have the CHPS Compound, the challenge we face to access health delivery will be minimised,” the residents said.
Krachie Cluster WASH Programme Officer, Augustine Nyaaba, explained that the construction of the facility started in February, 2019 and apart from serving the people of Cement, it would also serve other 15 near communities, making a total of 16 communities with a population of about 1,600.
The Krachie Cluster WASH Programme Officer added that the facility was built at a cost of $66,624 and it has three quarters to host the health workers with solar mechanised borehole and nine taps.
“The project you see here today was constructed within three months which was sponsored by Mr and Mrs Inden from Germany,” he said.
Community Health Officer at the facility, Moses Kator Anormeadzor, appealed to the government to bring more health workers to assist him, particularly, a midwife who will help pregnant women in time of labour.
He described the facility as the biggest in the Oti region.
