The campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has reaffirmed its support for him following his conviction and 20-year prison sentence in the Samreboi illegal mining case.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 20, the campaign said it backs the NPP’s decision to challenge the judgment through the appellate courts, expressing confidence that the legal process is not yet concluded.

“Our faith remains unwavering,” the statement said, adding that the conviction does not mark the end of Chairman Wontumi’s legal battle.

The campaign described the judgment as one of the most difficult moments for Chairman Wontumi, his family, supporters and the NPP, but insisted that its confidence in his leadership remains unchanged.

It said his contributions to the party, built over years of sacrifice, resilience and commitment, cannot be erased by a single court decision.

The statement highlighted Chairman Wontumi’s political journey, from serving as a Party Security Officer and Constituency Chairman to completing three terms as Ashanti Regional Chairman, describing his record of service to the NPP as significant.

The campaign urged supporters who may be discouraged by the ruling to remain hopeful, stressing that all legal avenues have not been exhausted and that the legal team will pursue available options.

It also called on party members to remain calm, peaceful and respectful of state institutions while the appeal process continues, cautioning against comments or actions that could undermine the judicial process.

According to the campaign, the values associated with Chairman Wontumi’s political movement — conviction, loyalty, courage and service — remain unchanged despite the conviction.

The statement thanked delegates, volunteers, communicators, youth activists, polling station executives, constituency and regional officers, as well as supporters across the country, for their continued backing.

It maintained that the campaign remains committed to strengthening NPP’s grassroots structures and pursuing its vision of a united party capable of achieving future electoral victories.

Reaffirming its loyalty, the campaign said it has no regrets supporting Chairman Wontumi and will continue to stand by him throughout the legal process.
