A 62-year-old woman has been shot dead at Alavanyo in the Volta region Friday in the wake of the frosty relationship existing between the Nkonyas and Alavanyos.

According to reports, the woman whose name is yet to be disclosed was shot when she came out to pick some fruits.

It is unclear if the killing has links with recent clashes between the Alavanyo and Nkonya faction which left three people dead.

There is an uneasy calm in the area as the security agencies beef up their presence in the region to forestall any reprisal attacks.

The latest death is coming on the heels of the killing of a 15-year-old boy a week ago. He was gunned down by some unidentified men who invaded the community.

Residents of Nkoya and Alavanyo have been fighting for years over a piece of land.

The fight has led to several deaths and destruction of properties.

Government is threatening to take over the piece of land but some of the chiefs at the centre of the feud have rejected the proposal.
