A woman has been accused of “ruining” her brother’s wedding after she refused to look after 40 children.

The 20-year-old woman explained that her brother Nate, 28, and his fiancée Emily, 32, are due to get married.

Growing up, she and Nate were very close, “he’s my favourite out of all my siblings”, she said, but since he started dating Emily, they “grew apart.”

Although she said she still talks to Nate often, she and Emily rarely see eye to eye, as she explained in her post on Reddit : “She hasn’t done anything to me, I haven’t done anything to her, we just don’t see eye to eye on things.

But with the couple’s wedding day looming, the tension between the women is rising.

The woman explained that Nate and Emily are having a “child-free” wedding, “But in Emily’s eyes, a child is anyone under twenty-one years old. I know, dumba** rule,” and since the woman is only 20, she originally wasn’t going to be allowed to attend the ceremony or reception – until she spoke to her brother.

“I told Nate how much it would hurt to not be there for his big day, so he ended up convincing Emily to let me stay for the ceremony.”

She continued: “We had a family dinner earlier this week and Emily brought up that she would like to have a daycare service for the children of her guests at the wedding. And somehow, she mentioned that she would love for me and my boyfriend (20) to look over the kids.”

The woman, who is studying to be a teacher, and her boyfriend, a trainee paediatrician, love children and were on board with the idea until they were told that we’d be watching 40 kids for six hours – and would only be paid $50 each.

“We agreed that we’d do it for $150 each,” she said, “But Emily insisted on her original offer. And then Nate got involved, saying he told Emily that we’d be happy to watch the children and it would save them a lot of money, and how it’s too late for them to find a different sitter.”

Emily was furious and called the woman a “greedy, selfish brat”, before going as far as to say that she should be paying her in exchange for the teaching experience.

The bride-to-be then accused the woman of ruining her big day and said if she didn’t agree to look after the children she wouldn’t be welcome at the ceremony.

“Now here’s where I may be an a**hole,” she contined.

“I honestly don’t care about babysitting. In fact, I would probably do it for free. My entire family knows this. That’s why they’re so mad at me right now. My phone has been blowing up all evening, telling me that I should want to do anything that will make my brother’s wedding perfect and I’m being a childish a**shole.”

Although she admits it “sucks” that she probably won’t be attending the wedding and that she feels bad for putting Nate in an awkward position, she says she can’t put up with Emily treating her the way that she has.

She concluded her post by asking Reddit users whether she was an “a**hole” for ruining her brother’s wedding and potentially their relationship, but they were quick to assure her that she was not the one in the wrong.

One person said: “Wtf?!? They don’t want you to attend the wedding but you’re allowed to work it?!? If she thinks 21 is a child, tell her it’s irresponsible to have a child in charge of 40 other children and decline.”

Another added: “I’m being really stupid here but… if it’s a ‘child-free’ wedding, why are there 40 children there?”
