Suppliers under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme have issued a two-week window for the government to begin discussions about GH¢250 million in outstanding payments.

The Controlled Food Suppliers Association (CFSA) says the move is aimed at getting government to provide clear timelines for settling debts owed to suppliers who provided food to SHSs during the 2024/2025 academic year.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, the Association’s Secretary, Cornelius Koku Logo, disclosed that no government institution had contacted the suppliers following the ultimatum.

“No, nobody has reached out as we speak. We’ve not received any call from any of the agencies as we speak,” he said.

Despite the absence of any engagement, Mr Logo said the suppliers were hopeful that government would use the two-week period to open discussions and work towards resolving the payment issue.

“But we are hopeful because we have given government at least two weeks to engage us,” he said.

He explained that the ultimatum was not meant to antagonise or threaten the government, but was rather a peaceful step taken after earlier efforts to resolve the matter failed to produce the desired outcome.

“I know we are not threatening government. That’s not what we sought to do today. But, you know, sometimes when you try various approaches in resolving an issue and you are not getting results, there are other legitimate options that are available to you, and we thought that this was one of them, which we used peacefully to convey our concerns to government,” he said.

The Association said the food supplied to the schools was delivered through the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) and the Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX).
