A parent who is upset about the development

Some angry pupils, who have been tossed back and forth because of the Ghana Education Service’ (GES) school placement, have openly declared that they are fed up with the entire process and do not want to enjoy President Nana Akufo-Addo’s free Senior High School (SHS) initiative.

According to them, the current education system is poorly structured and causing more problems. In fact, they want a comeback of former President Mahama’s ‘cash and carry’ system.

One of the Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE) graduates, who spoke with GhanaWeb said, “In Ghana, the education system is poor and the double track is not helping us. We don’t want free SHS, we are tired. We must pay, because, when Mahama was there, we were able to go to school. Our education system is poor…Akufo-Addo we are tired.”

They also revealed that the Akufo-Addo government, before the start of BECE, came out with a pledge to secure schools for students who attain aggregate 06 to 25, yet, some pupils within this category have not been placed in any school.

“When we were about to write the BECE, Nana Addo brought a policy that from 06 to 25, we’ll get at least from our first choice to their last choice. I chose St Roses, Ghana National…I did not even get at least one of the schools I chose and I had grade 12 but someone who had 45 has been enrolled at PRESEC,” another frustrated student said.

They also informed the team that the situation was so unbearable, a number of people had collapsed Monday and had to be transported to the hospital.

“They’ve brought ambulance here willing for us to collapse so you take us away. That’s their aim. They are not aiming to help us but they are aiming for us to die so they can take us away and get money,” she fumed.
