A midwife at the Yaama CHPS Compound in the Walewale Municipality of the North East Region has been praised for helping to save the lives of a pregnant woman and her baby during a medical emergency.
Mary Agyeman, the Midwife in Charge of the facility, acted swiftly when the woman developed complications during labour and needed urgent referral for advanced medical care.
With no immediate access to an ambulance or other means of transport, Madam Agyeman facilitated the woman’s transfer on a motor king and continued providing skilled obstetric care throughout the journey.
She successfully delivered the baby on the tricycle before they arrived at the referral facility.
Her quick response, professionalism and dedication ensured that both the mother and newborn survived the emergency. The two are reported to be in stable condition and doing well.
The incident has attracted praise from members of the public, with many describing Madam Agyeman’s actions as a demonstration of commitment and sacrifice in providing healthcare, especially in underserved communities where access to emergency transport remains a challenge.
