Media Officer of Black Starlets Sheikh Tophic Sienu has revealed that the team is targeting a place in the final of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship and qualification for next year’s U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Togo and currently lead Group A after Benin drew with Burkina Faso.
The Black Starlets will face Benin today, October 13, in their second group-stage match, with a victory guaranteeing their place in the tournament’s semi-finals.
Speaking on Sporty FM, Tophic Sienu outlined the team’s ambitions for the competition, adding that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is providing the necessary support to help the team achieve its objectives.
“The main target of the Black Starlets is to reach the final of the WAFU B U17 and qualify for the U17 AFCON. The GFA is doing everything to ensure the players are motivated to achieve that,” he stated.
The WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship also serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations, with the two finalists securing places at the continental tournament, adding further significance to the Black Starlets’ quest for success in Burkina Faso.
