Two police officers, yet to be identified, on Thursday afternoon brutalised a commercial bus driver, identified as Akwesi Osei, at Kasoa in the Central region over GH¢50.00.
According to witnesses, the two policemen hammered the driver’s head with a pistol and wounded his head in the process.
Speaking in an interview with Adom News, the driver’s mate, Nana Akufo-Addo, said the policemen chased their vehicle from McCarthy Hill after the driver refused to offer an amount they demanded.
He said “one of police officers stopped us at McCarthy Hill and demanded GH¢50.00 over an offence the driver committed while we were travelling to Agona Swedru after loading from Kaneshie.”
According to him, his master told one of the police officers he could not afford the GH¢50.00 but could afford GH¢ 20.00 which the police refused.
“One of the officers told my master to continue the journey and after moving the car they started chasing us with a Nissan Navera police pickup,” he narrated.
He added: “Upon reaching Kasoa official town the police officers crossed us and started beating up my master who became unconscious.”
