Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is calling for resource allocation for the office of the Senior Minister.
The maverick MP believes Mr. Yaw Osafp-Maafo’s office needs a budget allocation to carry out programmes.
His comments come a day after Parliament rejected GHȻ6 million allocated to that office in the 2018 Budget.
Members of Parliament had described the allocation as illegal because the office of the Senior Minister is not backed by any law.
The Senior Minister office was created by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo when he assumed office.
Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu argued the Senior Minister’s office is expected to coordinate the activities of other ministries, departments and agencies and cannot be treated as a separate Ministry without any legal backing.
Though Mr. Kennedy Agyapong admitted the office has no legal backing he insisted funds should still be allocated to the office.
“Osafo Marfo office still needs money. I side with minority if they rejected by saying his office is not backed by law. I believe that.
“I have no problem at all but I still think he coordinates affairs of other ministries and agencies and I believe he still needs funds to support his ministry because he is a minister and needs to work” he said on Adom TV’s Morning Show “Badwam” Tuesday.
