Fast-rising dancehall artiste Derrick Obuobi Junior, popularly known as J.Derobie, has said his song “Poverty” was only named after his observations with life and poverty in 2018.

The talented young artiste said, “in life, there are so many downfalls and temptations that come our way because of poverty.”

He added many people around him complained so much about not having money and things are difficult for them. “There is poverty running in our society on low key.”

J Derobie said his friends always praised his music and called them dope but he was always lacking financially to support and promote his music.

He stated though he is not coming from a poor home, he was not rich enough to support and promote his music.

J.Derobie explained he felt he was not lucky when many things did not go his way.

“Most of the times I am not that lucky. I tell girls I like them but it doesn’t work. I go for a job interview and I am not called but for Mr Eazi’s empawa100 thing I applied for, it picked, and I am so happy,” he said.

The new artiste said in June 2018 he took his time and put all his efforts into writing “Poverty.”

He said his song was written to encourage himself and others not to fall for the temptations poverty brings but to work and fight harder.

He added his song originally did not have a title but he felt poverty was a perfect fit as a title for his song.

J Derobie started trending after his song “Poverty” hit the waves. The song which is about not falling for poverty but working hard to put your name out there has over 200,000 views on YouTube.
