Kumasi-based movie director, Frank Fiifi Gharbin says if most of the Kumawood industry players would realise the essence of schooling, their movies would be of quality standard.
He made the statement in an interview with Adomonline.com when addressing the issues of the challenges facing the movie industry.

Frank recalled when Nigerian comic actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, on one of his visits to the Kumawood said Kumawood possessed talented artists but education was a major setback.
According to Frank, he supports Mr Ibu’s assertion even though formal education isn’t really a factor to make one successful in the movie industry.
Mr Gharbin also lashed out at some of the Kumawood actors including – Koo who thinks getting a formal education is a “waste of time” for acting.

“In the film industry, your qualification doesn’t determine your pay. It depends on how famous you become and how many hit movies you have. So, if you say you’re a degree holder, it doesn’t operate in rules. You will see someone like Mr Ibu and he has a degree. We were shooting a movie in Kumasi and he said if Agya Koo and Lil Win and others could go to school they can go international”
The renowned director charged the Kumawood actors to try and reach out to film schools to better their craft since the industry is dynamic.
“Now we have reached a stage where education is important. Now we are shooting cinema films, if you don’t go to school, how would you meet the digital migration,” he asked.
