Ghana’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK), Victor Smith has rubbished claims by the defeated Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Tawiah Boateng, that he ganged up against his re-election bid.

Mr Tawiah Boateng said Mr Smith led the crusade against him that eventually got him defeated at the weekend’s regional elections of the party.

“Former appointees, led by Victor Smith ganged up against me which ensured that I was defeated. In the course of collating votes there were lights out just to ensure that things were changed in favour of my opponents”, he disclosed during an interview on Okay FM.

Mr Bismark Tawiah Boateng was last Saturday defeated by John Owusu Amankrah popularly known as Jowak at the Regional elections of the party

Jowak polled 373 as against Tawiah Boateng’s 28 votes.

But Mr Smith, reacting to the allegations on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Monday said he only went to the grounds to support all the candidates without any special interest.

“It’s not true that I went there ganged against Tawiah Boateng. Yes, I was there but not to support one person but all of them. I even saw Tawiah Boateng that day and we shook hands and so why should he turn and accuse me of ganging against him. I can never do that” he said.
