Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has called on universities across Ghana to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) by integrating digital literacy and emerging technologies into their academic programmes.
She said higher education institutions must also promote interdisciplinary research, support technology-driven entrepreneurship and equip graduates with the skills to use AI responsibly in an evolving digital world.
The Vice President made the remarks at the 15th Graduation Ceremony of Kaaf University, where 2,053 students graduated under the theme, “Transforming Lives, Transforming Ghana.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang encouraged the university to leverage Ghana’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy to prepare graduates for the demands of a rapidly changing technological landscape.
She commended Kaaf University for its commitment to producing graduates with the knowledge, practical skills and values needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
The Vice President also highlighted the government’s Teacher Dabre initiative, which seeks to provide decent accommodation for teachers, particularly those posted to rural communities.
According to her, improving teachers’ living conditions will help make rural postings more attractive and reduce the challenges educators face in underserved areas.
Meanwhile, the Chancellor of Kaaf University, Michael Aidoo, appealed to the government to extend the No Fees Stress initiative to students enrolled in private tertiary institutions.
He argued that such support would ease the financial burden on parents and ensure that students in private universities also benefit from government educational interventions.
“Students in private institutions are also Ghanaians and deserve support,” he said.
